Announcing the 2017 Stingray Young Performers

Learn more about the Stingray Young Performers Program and 40 young performers who will be taking part this year.

It’s no secret that there is incredible talent when it comes to our youth. We wanted to help nurture and grow that talent, so in 2000 we created the Young Performers Program and for the past eight years we've had Stingray Music Service help support this program. Each year we take submissions from all over and host up to 40 young musicians aged 14 to 24 and group them up with industry professionals from our festival lineup that serve as mentors for the program.

Each mentor has incredible knowledge of the industry and each young artist has this unique opportunity to soak in all that knowledge and to ask questions. They will learn technical skills, get songwriting tips and then perform all they’ve learned on the Shady Grove stage in front of a festival audience. YOU have the chance as folkies to hear them FIRST!

Many of these young artists have gone on to have number one songs on CBC, tour Canada and some even come back to be a part of the main lineup at the Winnipeg Folk Fest, where it all began. Incredible artists such as the Crooked BrothersDel BarberDaniel ChampagneCara LuftKacy & ClaytonSlow LeavesSweet Alibi and Brandy Zdan and members of The Bros. LandrethThe DuhksOh My Darling and Red Moon Road. Even one of this year’s mentors, Cara Luft, was a young performer in the first year of the program.

The mentors for the 2017 Stingray Young Performers Program are... JD Edwards (The Small Glories), Joey Landreth, Chris Luedecke (Old Man Luedecke), Cara Luft (The Small Glories) and Aoife O'Donovan! And without further ado, here are your 2017 Stingray Young Performers…
