Cutting-Edge Tech to be Showcased at Folk Fest in the City
You might not be quick to associate the latest in technology innovation with a rootsy folk festival, but heck, we like to mix things up a bit.
Local digital content creation companies The Campfire Union and Handcraft Creative were at the 2015 Winnipeg Folk Fest with a space age-looking tripod with GoPro cameras attached at all angles to capture 360-degree video of quintessential Folk Fest scenes and performances. In the time since July, they’ve transformed the footage into a virtual reality experience that will be offered, for the first time ever, to the attendees of Folk Fest in the City, our annual fundraiser for our community programs.
Guests will get the full 360-degree virtual reality experience. The Campfire Union and Handcraft Creative will be on-hand at the event with Gear VR goggles that will immerse the viewer inside the festival, allowing them to relive some of the best moments. With the goggles, the viewer can turn their head to see all around and feel the energy, vibrancy and excitement of the festival site and performances. And we could all use a little dose of that Folk Fest vibe in late-November, couldn't we?
Folk Fest in the City happens this Friday, November 20 at the Fairmont Winnipeg featuring food stations curated by Chef Eraj, a vast silent auction and performances by Bart House Band, The Mariachi Ghost and The Dirty Catfish Brass Band. Click here for more info and to buy tickets.
