Get Geared Up! Ride Your Bike to the Festival
I never thought I could have come this far
Through miles of mountains, valleys, streams
This is the right stuff filling my dreams
So come on, get up on your bike
Ah go on, get up on your bike
– Luka Bloom, The Acoustic Motorbike
The opening morning of the Folk Fest is filled with excitement. Packing the car with all your gear, setting off with friends and family to find the perfect campsite to be your home base for a weekend of music.
While driving out to Birds Hill Park, have you spotted a group of cyclists along the road? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to ditch the car and cycle to the festival?
Each year, we coordinate several Bike Ride to Site group rides. Everyone is welcome to join this eco-friendly commute – and it’s awesome to begin your Folk Fest experience with fun folkies! Plus, riders get an added perk: first crack at picking their camp spots in the Festival Campground.
We are always trying to reduce the environmental impact of the festival and encourage sustainability, and the Bike Ride To Site saves approximately two metric tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. This is equal to the carbon sequestered by 53 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
400 riders can be accommodated in these official rides. To ensure you are in a ride that best suites your skill level, please register early!
Worried about getting your gear out? We’ll transport two units of gear per person out for you (examples of a unit would be one standard sized cooler, one duffle bag, one backpack, etc.).
Regular rides are ideal for intermediate to advance riders, while casual rides are geared to the beginning cyclist. All rides depart from The Forks in Downtown Winnipeg.
