Getting Creative in the Festival Camground
Immersing yourself in nature and music is bound to get your creative juices flowing. Take time to express yourself during the festival at these unique campground animators!
The Flaming Trolleys are a community-based orchestra that creates a circus-like environment for campers to build puppets under their tent made from reclaimed materials. You’ll also find a performance stage, a puppet stage or, if you need to zen out, a meditation zone.
Metamorphosis is a beautiful butterfly installation that you can help transform throughout the festival. When first we meet her, just her head will be decorated. As she is visited by folkies, her magnificence will be revealed thanks to the paint markers and excellent creativity of her guests. Be a part of her evolution!
A wall-to-wall canvas tent will be on site to fill with campers’ artistic flare. Gather your friends and family under this tent to create a lasting image. After the festival the creators plan to recycle the canvas into items like bags and patches. Make your mark!
Free-spirits: brand yourself with a temporary or hand-drawn tattoo to commemorate your festival experience this year. Not just a spot to try something new, this spot will provide rain cover as well as late night music jams.
You know how you go to the library to take out a book of choice? Imagine that, but with costume pieces! The Folk Fest is a fun time to dress in something fabulous. Be sure to visit The Wardrobe for fashion shows, theme nights and, of course, music! Visit this tent to browse, borrow and bring back.
Yes, we live in a world of Instagram and selfies. But wouldn’t it be cool to create some unique photos from a one-of-a-kind pinhole camera? This workshop will teach you to build your own from recycled material. Explore the campground, take some shots and bring your camera back when you’re done. After the fest, the animators will develop your photos and email them to you. Old technology + new technology = amazing memories.
Meet and enjoy the music. Those are the goals of the Vinyl Village. This welcoming place at the trailhead for 1B has a piano and other instruments for all to use. It’s open day and night, so be sure to swing by for a visit and sing along!
