Good Vibes, Good Music, Good People
It felt great in The Good Will last night for the first Folk Fest Thursday. Many familiar faces showed up to the bar/venue/pizza place/coffee shop at 625 Portage Avenue and it was nice to catch up with volunteers and people we rarely run into outside of Birds Hill Park.
Scott Nolan, Damon Mitchell, Ashley Au and Joanna Miller we on stage sharing songs while, in true Folk Fest fashion, eager listeners sat attentively, cross-legged on the floor.
For the first set, Scott Nolan and the band played songs from unreleased records, including some awesome bluesy-Americana jams that he recorded down in Alabama, spliced with a few stories from the road.
The second set kicked off shortly after 9:30 where we saw Scott take a seat behind the keys. This part of the evening was dominated by incredible songs that he’s recorded featuring writing by his friend – the late Canadian poet, Patrick O’Connell. On his travels, Scott always carries books of his friend’s poetry to give away as gifts to the good people he meets along the way.
The whole night wrapped up shortly before 11:00 and everyone stuck around to hang out. Can’t wait to do it again on February 12!
