Guest Blog: Giving Back a Family Affair!

Our guest blog this week celebrates one special family who have been recognized for their contribution to our community as a whole with the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Family IMPACT Award at the 31st Annual Volunteer Awards.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is so grateful for the support we receive from all our incredible volunteers. Our guest blog this week celebrates one special family who have been recognized for their contribution to our community as a whole with the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Family IMPACT Award at the 31st Annual Volunteer Awards, hosted by Volunteer Manitoba last month.

“Each of our kids has been at every Winnipeg Folk Festival since they were born.  Sometimes for only a few hours, or a day, but mostly for the entire weekend.  Along with that, the First Aid tent was home.  Not because of illness or injury but because it was our family’s ‘home base’ as we volunteered and coordinated care for the patrons of the daytime and evening concerts.  The skilled and friendly crew of first aid volunteers are our family.

It has been our privilege to offer our time and skills to this endeavor over the years.  We have seen the relief on patrons’ faces that the concern that brought them in to the tent was ‘fixable’ or not as serious as they feared.  We have helped dehydrated people rehydrate and stay on site to enjoy more music.  All in all, it is a gift to serve others in this way.

Thanks for the memories, Winnipeg Folk Festival.”
