Guest Blog: Local Artist Adam Hanney Finishes Record Thanks To Stingray Digital

To kick off our semi-regular Thankful Thursday blog series, where we highlight the great things Winnipeg Folk Fest sponsors do for our community, Adam Hanney tells us about his experience as the 2014 Stingray Rising Star Award recipient.

Stingray Digital is committed to encouraging emerging Canadian talent and chooses to sponsor our Young Performers Program. The program aligns with Stingray’s mission because it provides young aspiring folk musicians the opportunity to grow and learn from professional musicians.

They offer opportunity for advancement of a musician’s career by providing bursaries, performance opportunities and airplay on Stingray channels. Adam Hanney was the recipient of an award from Stingray.

From Adam:

Stingray’s support helps makes this fantastic program possible, not only for me, but also for countless other young musicians from Manitoba and beyond. Their help to sponsor the program has allowed me to share my music and work with many talented, established musicians through the mentorship program, and network with young local artists who were also looking to further their careers, experiences and knowledge.

Each year I’d walk away enlightened and with a renewed confidence and vigour to further pursue music. More recently, I experienced that feeling to what might be it’s utmost pinnacle: Winnipeg Folk Festival and Stingray awarded me a $1,000 cheque, which happened to be the very last chunk of money I needed to finish recording my first LP, helping me wrap up a nearly three-year-long process of making my debut album. Never did I think that being a part of the Young Performers Program would lead me to receiving something so significant at such a pivotal time in my career. For that, I am forever thankful.
