Spotlight on Saturday Workshops

Spontaneous musical magic is made by some of the best artists of our time at Folk Fest. When artists meet on stage to riff off each other’s tunes, something truly special happens – new sounds are born, unscripted banter exchanged and friendships formed through the merging of melodies. As an audience, we get a front row seat to the action!

Plectrum Electrum

Shady Grove @ 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, Possessed by Paul James and Rayland Baxter

The quintessential Folk Fest workshop. This guitar jam is sure to get you up and dancing Saturday morning. Possessed by Paul James is a one-man band, armed with a banjo, fiddle and guitar. You might recognize Larry Campbell who played a six-string with the Levon Helm Band back in 2010. He's also toured extensively as a member of Bob Dylan's band. Both Larry and Teresa Williams are sought-after backing players who are now stepping forward. Nashville's Rayland Baxter will play our festival stages for the first time. His song-craft has been hailed by critics, most recently on his latest album Imaginary Man

John, I’m Only Dancing

Snowberry @ 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Boogat, The Funk Hunters & Vaudou Game

Yep, that’s a Bowie reference. An apt one at that – we’re certain this world-dance workshop will inspire you to bust some moves! The Funk Hunters, hot of this year’s Coachella performances, will be joined by Boogat who just won the Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year. If that wasn’t already enough, Vaudou Game will bring West African flavours and mix ‘em with electrified funk for a heck of a good ruckus.

Young Americans

Green Ash @ 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Wild Child, The Head and the Heart, San Fermin

Folk-pop darlings Wild Child will play with Main Stage performers The Head and the Heart– a band that is no stranger to our festival home and our hearts. The beautiful eight-piece Brooklyn ensemble, San Fermin, will step in to make another workshop appearance. San Fermin's etherial sounds will dazzle – they are the perfect group to round out this performance. With the number of talents in the workshop, our hearts will be as full as the stage.

Keep an eye here tomorrow morning for features on Sunday workshops!
