Stingray Young Performers Program Gives Musicians A Career Start

Stingray Young Performers Program Gives Musicians A Career Start

We offer an unforgettable opportunity for budding musicians to work on their music with professional musicians playing Folk Fest, July 7-10. Musicians, ages 14 to 24, are invited to apply to the Stingray Young Performers Program online today!

Ahead of the festival’s full performer lineup announcement on March 10, we are thrilled to reveal that the following artists will be performing at the festival in July and mentoring youth in the Stingray Young Performers Program:

Crooked Brothers
Dan Frechette and Laurel Thomsen
Matt Epp
Jim Bryson

The Stingray Young Performers Program offers mentorship and workshopping opportunities with these talented festival performers who will share a wealth of knowledge about the industry, in addition to technical skills and songwriting tips. The participants will then showcase what they learned on Shady Grove stage in front of a festival audience.

We aim to nurture musicians in the community and provides career stepping stones so they may one day lend their voices to inspire a younger generation. The popular program started in 2000 and sees hundreds of applicants each year. A jury of industry professionals selects 35 to 40 promising young musicians annually. Young artists use the program as a springboard to launch their careers and many have gone on to play the festival as part of the main lineup; artists such as the Crooked Brothers, Del Barber, Sweet Alibi, Daniel Champagne and Brandy Zdan.

"After being part of the program myself at the start of my career, it was a really amazing opportunity to be a mentor [last year] for the Stingray Young Performers Program," said Brandy Zdan. "It’s such a great opportunity for young performers to showcase their sounds and you are probably going to see them on the festival Main Stage in 10 years time."

Singer/songwriters, instrumentalists, vocalists and bands between that ages of 14 and 24 are invited to apply for the Stingray Young Performers Program online.

Stingray has been a proud presenting partner of the program since 2010.
