Take Your Taste Buds on a World Tour

Take Your Taste Buds on a World Tour

The musical global village is well represented at the Winnipeg Folk Fest with artists from across the planet travelling to Birds Hill Park for the annual event. That international focus isn’t just reflected on stage, but also in the menus of our many food vendors who offer more than two-dozen different cultural cuisines and regional specialties that will have festival goers taking their appetites on a world tour.

Along with returning staples such as Star Grill, Santa Lucia, East India Company, Gramma’s Kettle Korn, Classic Car-B-Que, and, of course, Whales Tails, several new vendors will be setting up this year to tempt your palate with even more taste sensations. Many of our new additions will be serving a variety of locally sourced and organic food with gluten free and vegan and vegetarian options.

Corrientes is named after Corrientes Avenue in Buenos Aires, the cultural heart of the city, and specializes in authentic Argentinean street food, including gourmet empanadas.

If Mexican is more your taste, then Burrito Splendido will have what you are craving with fresh burritos.

The menu of Diversity Food Services is summed up in its name and will be focusing on Asian-fare, such as dragon bowls, veggie stir-fries, ramen noodle soups, and pita sandwiches.

Closer to home, Grass Fed Grill is dedicated to sustainable development and keeps its focus on locally procured, hormone-free beef, pasture-raised and provided by Harborside Farms in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Along with classic hamburgers, cheeseburgers and fries, the menu includes such options as the spicy crunch burger, the Zeus burger and the Schwarzenegger burger, ensuring you’ll be back.

And what would summer be without some corn on the cob? That’s what Corn on the Curb is all about, with the buttery treat served hot and fresh Manitoba farmer sausage and some lemon ginger soda to wash it all down.

So take your appetite on a trip around the world because no matter what you are craving at this year’s festival, our many food vendors will be sure to have something to tempt and satisfy your palate.
