Wailin’ Wednesday: Summer Festival Recap
As Folk Fest staff, we are huge fans of festivals. This summer, a few of us on the WFF team took some holiday time to experience the sounds, sights, tastes and activities at festivals near and far!
Shaky Knees – May 9 to 11 – Atlanta, GA
Dubbed HOTlanta by us Winnipeggers (who aren’t used that kind of heat), is one heck of a music festival. Only in its second year, the festival boasted an incredible line-up that included the Alabama Shakes, The National, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the reunited Replacements and many more. Also, the food trucks were amazing.

Osheaga – July 31 to August 2 – Montreal, QC
Sprawling across Parc Jean-Drapeau are six stages bursting with music from the biggest hit-makers of the year. Highlights included Local Natives, Lorde, Arctic Monkeys and Jack White.
And there's plenty of art at Osheaga!
Rainbow Trout Music Festival – August 15 to 17 – St. Malo, MB
This is a festival founded by Manitoba musicians who are proud of the wealth of amazing music made in this province and the line-up is reflective of this. A lot of camping, relaxing, dancing and splashing around in the creek happened at the indie-rock festival this year.
Wanderlust Festival – August 21 to 24 – Mont Tremblant, QC
A festival and wellness retreat rolled into one! Paddleboard yoga was attempted without any major wipeouts, hula hooping, slack lining and food from the many amazing chefs at the festival were sampled.
Harvest Moon Festival – September 12 to 14 – Clearwater, MB
This festival is perfect kiss-off to summer. The colder-than-usual temperatures didn’t deter us from dancing to the Rolling Stones tribute band, Peggers Banquet and Royal Canoe Saturday night. Our fridges are full of locally grown veggies from the farmers market!
