Wailin’ Wednesday: The Playlist You Need This February

Wailin’ Wednesday: The Playlist You Need This February

Had enough of winter?

While we here on the Prairies are experiencing extreme cold warnings, our friends on the West Coast are enjoying the sweet smells of budding flowers and fresh grass. But our pals to the east are dealing with this, so we suppose we should count our blessings.

In any case, what this weather calls for is good, uplifting music! Here are a few new songs we’ve been listening to that are helping us get through these long February days.

Hayden – Nowhere We Cannot Go

Live vicariously though these happy couples frolicking on the beach. Like what you hear? This is Hayden’s first single off Hey Love which will be out March 24. You can also catch him live at the Garrick Centre with Dan Mangan + Blacksmith on March 5

Joel Plaskett – On A Dime

Listening to this song certainly brought a spring to our step and we bet it will do the same for you. The Park Avenue Sobriety Test is due out March 17 and you can see Joel live in Winnipeg May 16 with Mo Kenney

Alabama Shakes – Don’t Wanna Fight

We’re loving this funky jam. Anixioulsy awaiting to hear more when Sound & Color drops April 20!

Father John Misty – Chateau Lobby #4

This trippy, tropical video is giving us California dreams. His new record is a favourite and has been on rotation almost non-stop at the music store.

Whitehorse – Baby What’s Wrong?

The bonfires in this video give us visions of the Festival Campground. One of the most anticipated Canadian releases so far this year, Leave No Bridge Unburned was just released yesterday and Winnipeggers can hear it live at the Burton Cummings Theatre April 24

Sunrays and warm days – they’re just around the corner!

Wailin’ Wednesday: How to Get Through a Manitoba Winter

Our Manitoba winters breed hearty folk. With our winters being so long, we’d go stir-crazy if we stayed inside for the duration of it, so we’ve learned to embrace the cold!

We are so lucky to have a park like Bird Hill so close to Winnipeg. Our festival home is a great place to enjoy the outdoors in the summer (especially during Folk Fest!), but did you know that the park is equipped for you to do plenty of winter activities?

Wailin’ Wednesday: The Music Video You Need To Watch

On our “official” Canadian Bands You’ve Gotta Know list is Shred Kelly from Fernie, BC. We had them in town to play an outdoor show at Old Market Square back when their record ‘In The Hills’ was released. Their high-energy and fast-banjo playing had folks of all ages kicking off their shoes and dancing in the grass.
