Wailin’ Wednesday: Thinking of Putting a Hamper Together This Season?
The spirit of Christmas is in the air – are you feeling it? It goes without saying that Folk Fest time gives us warm and fuzzy feelings but, in addition to July, it’s this point in the year that we can’t help but find ourselves particularly cheerful.
The holiday season is a time to reflect on all the memories made over the course of the year and to celebrate with the friends and family you’ve shared those experiences with. It’s a time to take stock in your good fortunes and think about what you have to share with others.
It’s the season for giving and us folks at the Winnipeg Folk Festival office have chosen to donate to LITE’s Alternative Christmas Hamper program. LITE not only provides a hamper to a family in need, but purchases the goods from local businesses that provide jobs and training to people who have overcome employment barriers in Winnipeg’s inner city.
There are many reasons that some people have a more difficult time finding a job than others. Many people in our city haven’t had the benefit of receiving a formal education, are single parents without childcare or have previously been involved with the justice system and are trying to get back on the right track. The opportunity to support the businesses that work with these members of our community so that they may find employment is exciting!
