Wailin’ Wednesday: You’re Gonna Like What’s Coming, #1

Wailin’ Wednesday: You’re Gonna Like What’s Coming, #1

The Winnipeg Folk Fest is a discovery festival and has always been. Walking by a stage and being drawn in by an attractive melody you’re hearing for the first time is one of the best parts of Folk Fest.

With over 65 artists to see and hear, while you’re discovering one great new artist at Shady Grove, you might be missing another over at Green Ash. It’s a common festival dilemma. (But an abundance of music is a nice problem to have!)

Over the next few months, we’re going to try to help you out by introducing you to artists in our lineup so you know what you absolutely can’t miss.

Nahko & Medicine For The People

This is music that will elevate your spirit. For fans of Michael Franti and Ben Harper – both huge festival favourites.

Trampled by Turtles

So you think a chorus in a Mumford & Sons song has fast-banjo? Trampled by Turtles has them beat. For fans of Old Crow Medicine Show and fellow festival performer Shakey Graves.

Jessica Pratt

She’s described as freak-folk – a signifier that describes psychedelic, baroque-pop folk music born out of the late ‘60s. For fans of Canadian great Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez
