Who is Tamara Lindeman?
Tamara Lindeman AKA Tamara Hope AKA The Weather Station is a woman who goes by many names. Under the alias Tamara Hope, she’s an actor, having played roles in numerous TV shows and films alongside the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt and fellow Torontonian Aubrey Graham (that’s Drake, FYI). But we’ll come to know the husky voice and staccato string-picking style of The Weather Station when she plays our festival stages in July.
She released Loyalty this week to critical buzz in Canada and abroad. Despite this being her third album, she says it feels like her first, as it’s the first record she’s been able to release outside Canada thanks to catching the attention of infamous country-folk label Paradise of Bachelors (Steve Gunn, Hiss Golden Messenger).
Loyalty was recorded in an abandoned Paris mansion with her friend and fellow 2015 Folk Fest performer, Bahamas. You can hear the quiet, haunting inspiration of the mansion’s barren halls in the songs' melodies. Her music speaks to location. In fact, she picked the moniker The Weather Station to evoke imagery of a person living alone in an abandoned weather station on an arctic plain.

Winnipeggers, if you can’t wait to hear her at the festival – we have a treat for you! The Weather Station will be opening for Great Lake Swimmers at the West End Cultural Centre on May 25. They too just released a new record, A Forest of Arms. Check out the video for their single, “Zero In The City.”
