Winnipeg Folk Fest Session with Daniel Champagne

Winnipeg Folk Fest Session with Daniel Champagne

Daniel Champagne cut his festival chops at the Winnipeg Folk Fest. He worked his way through the Stingray Young Performers Program in 2010 then ripped it up on the Main Stage this July.

The Australian singer-songwriter has made moves in all aspects of his career. He now lives in the musical epicentre of Nashville, has toured across multiple continents and managed to put out - not one - but two albums in the span of a year. The guitar virtuoso is here, and he’s brought with him, the future sounds of folk.

Winnipeg Folk Fest Session with Grace & Tony

Winnipeg Folk Fest Session with Grace & Tony

It was a pleasure discovering the music of Nashville, TN’s Grace & Tony at Folk Fest this summer. Their self-proclaimed “punkgrass” music could be heard on many stages over the festival weekend - a genre that sprung up organically when Tony met Grace and they began jamming together, combining his punk-rock sound with her gospel and bluegrass style.

This is one of the iconic songs of Folk Fest; a tune we’ve heard hummed on sidewalks and coffee shops since the festival. We were so happy to have a chance to record “Phantoms and Friends” with Old Man Canyon backstage at the festival.
