You Have to Hear These Artists Chris Discovered in Mexico City

Always looking to infuse new world flavor into the Folk Fest lineup, our Artistic Director Chris Frayer headed down to Mexico City last week for the MEXIMM Mexico International Music Market.

Music showcases took place in historic places in Mexico City, including the outdoor Centro Cultural Del Mexico Contemporaneo. It was here he saw Cimarron from Columbia. This is a band with immense technical skill that you have to see to truly appreciate.

Violentango (Argentina) are a modern tango quintet who’ve played festivals like Glastonbury (and here’s hoping Folk Fest one day!)

From Guadalajara, Troker is a destructive jazz with DJing. Fans of The Cat Empire should check these guys out.

Txarango is from the most multicultural district of Barcelona – Raval. Diversity certainly shows in their music.

Wailin’ Wednesday: Chris Went to Australia & Heard A LOT of Great Music

Our Artistic Director Chris Frayer went to the Australasian Worldwide Music Expo (AWME) last week to speak on a panel and hear some of the best music from the other side of the globe (and stopped to sample some of the coffee from cool mobile cafés, like the one pictured above - a converted VW van).
